The late Fred Julian, a long-time teacher and coach at West Catholic, was recently inducted into the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame. He taught and coached football at West from 1969-1985. During Julian’s tenure, the football team won eight City League championships, the “mythical” Class B championship in 1974, and was the 1979 Class B State Runner-up. His career at West was 157-44-2 for a .776 win record. He finished his coaching career in 2002 as the head football coach at Grand Rapids Community College. He is also in the Michigan Football Coaches Hall of Fame, NJCAA Football Hall of Fame and the West Catholic Wall of Fame. Congratulations to Coach Julian!
