Students Become Top CEOs at Entrepreneurship Academy

Tuesday, July 9, 2019

This year, two West Catholic students were selected to participate in the Teen Entrepreneurship Summer Academy at Grand Valley State University’s Seidman School of Business. Rising sophomores Jacob Droski and Jacob North were accepted into the program with about 45 other students from area schools, including Rockford, Forest Hills, East Grand Rapids and City High.

Participants broke into small groups and were tasked with creating and developing a business idea that would help reduce poverty in the Greater Grand Rapids area. Jacob Droski and Jacob North were both selected as CEOs for their respective teams. After a week of participating in events, workshops, visits to startup incubators and a poverty simulation, teams presented their plans. A panel of local business leaders judged each presentation on concept and execution.

Out of the eight teams involved in the competition, our Falcon CEOs placed first and second. Jacob Droski’s team was awarded the top prize of $2,500 and Jacob North’s team was awarded second place and $1,500. Congratulations to both participants on this great achievement!
