Letter from Principal/CEO Cynthia Kneibel - 10.12.20

Date Posted:  10/12/2020

Dear parents,

Thank you so much for helping us make it almost eight weeks of in-person classes, five days a week, without a single COVID-19 case spread in the school. Your diligence in keeping students at home if they are sick and supporting us with the rules required by the Kent County Health Department has been rewarded! Thank you!

As schools around us are shifting to online learning at the request of their respective health departments due to outbreaks associated with the school, I am asking you to continue your vigilance in keeping your student(s) home if they are sick. If there is any question, please err on the side of caution. If family members have signs of illness, do your best, if possible, to keep them six feet away from those in your household who are healthy. Should a positive COVID-19 case be diagnosed, please follow established isolation and quarantine recommendations.

As an additional resource, Kent ISD and the Kent County Health Department have launched a COVID-19 dashboard. This tool is meant to provide parents, educators and the general public with transparency on confirmed COVID-19 cases in our local schools and districts. This dashboard includes charter and nonpublic schools in addition to public school districts and can be found HERE.

Please ask your student(s) to continue following safety precautions both in and out of school.  Whether warranted or not, high numbers of positive cases will bring our in-person learning to a halt. Let’s continue the great work we have been doing together!

Cynthia Kneibel
Principal/CEO

Date:  October 12, 2020

Boys Soccer Districts vs Belding (10/15)

The first round of districts will be held at West Catholic this week Thursday. Join us at 6 p.m. to support the boys soccer team! Tickets are $6 at the gate.

Varsity Football vs. Allendale (10/16)

Pre-sale for this week's varsity football game begins Tuesday. Seniors will have an opportunity to purchase tickets at lunch and juniors will be able to get tickets in the athletic office after school. All tickets are $5 and students will only be able to purchase tickets for themselves.

Please be aware that school administrators will be at the game to supervise the stands. Anyone in attendance who is NOT wearing a mask or following appropriate social distancing guidelines will be asked to leave. We want to ensure our athletes have the opportunity to compete in the post-season and we can only do that by making sure our community remains safe and healthy. Do your part and mask up, West Catholic!

WC Theatre Presents Stranded

Date:  October 12, 2020

In April 2020, seven West Catholic students met on Google Meet to rehearse a virtual monologue play. The play itself was the result of efforts from various playwrights to give students an opportunity to perform in a world where live performances had become a danger to public health and safety. The result is a collection of monologues that gives us a glimpse into life while quarantined.

Students rehearsed for six weeks, each perfecting two monologues before filming a final performance. By the time I received each student’s final videos, the world had begun to reopen and I got lost in the planning for a new school year during a global pandemic. Now, several months later, the final product is ready to be revealed! To view the show, please visit the West Catholic Theatre page - grwestcatholic.org/theatre.
