West Catholic included in Grand Rapids Promise Scholarship

Date:  January 14, 2020

There’s a new opportunity for help with college costs, available to Grand Rapids residents who graduate from a high school within the city – including West Catholic High School.

Local officials approved the Grand Rapids Promise Scholarship plan on Jan. 13. The program will cover up to two years of tuition at Grand Rapids Community College, along with books, supplies and other fees. That means eligible students could have job training, certifications, or even their associates degrees paid for!

***Please note, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form by March 1 in order to take advantage of the Promise Scholarship.***

Check out the Diocese of Grand Rapids' Office of Catholic School's blog for more details on the program and student eligibility.

A Midsummer Night's Dream - Jan. 22-25

Date:  January 16, 2020

Looking for relief from the lousy weather? Here's an idea: Catch a performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream opening Wednesday, Jan. 22 and running through Saturday, Jan. 25. Shakespeare's "most accessible" romantic farce will provide laughs, love and a happily ever after ending - the perfect antidote for the winter blues. Showtimes are 7 p.m. each night with an added matinee Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Aquinas College Performing Arts Center. Show your school ID at the PAC Box Office and get your ticket for $6. This the 20th straight season that a combined cast of students from WC and CC have worked together to perform a play from the greatest playwright of the English language. Be a part of this tradition by being a member of the audience. See you at the show!

Michigan Statistics Poster Competition

Date:  January 17, 2020

The Michigan Statistics Poster Competition supports the development of data analysis and communication skills in K-12 students, which are essential in our increasingly data-driven world. Annually, teachers throughout Michigan send hundreds of their students' posters to GVSU, where they are judged in four grade-level categories: K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. Winners in each category are awarded state-level prizes and sent to the national competition organized by the American Statistical Association.

For rules, registration and more information, visit gvsu.edu/stat/poster.
