International Exchange Experience

Parents and Guardians,

Before the year let out, an international organization introduced an exciting opportunity to our students in the form of an international exchange experience. This opportunity consists of hosting a student this coming fall who will be attending both Kendall Art Institute and West Catholic High for one week at the beginning of October. In addition, the students will take part in a few activities that show them the Grand Rapids culture such as Art Prize, our local orchards, etc. The second element of this is the opportunity to travel to China to spend a week with that same student at their school while also getting to take part in a few activities specific to their culture.

This week Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Media Center we would like to invite you to a short presentation / Q & A of this opportunity, expectations and cost estimates should you decide to take part in hosting a student or both hosting and having your child travel. David Du, of American Art Research Center, will be with us to answer specific questions you may have as you explore this opportunity.

If you would like to know more but cannot make it next Wednesday, please reach out to Todd Peters, Director of Admissions, so he can get all of the needed information to you. He can be reached at 616.233.5920 or at toddpeters@grwestcatholic.org

Moodle Maintenance

The GRCSS Moodle site will undergo some maintenance between July 1-July 4.  During this time Moodle will be updated and the site will also be restructured to split out the West Catholic and Catholic Central sites into two separate sites.  The split will allow easier access and navigation for parents and will also allow for greater personalization of the individual sites.  West Catholic’s new page will be relinked to the West Catholic homepage and also the old website address will have a redirect page so that parents and students can easily locate the site and recreate any necessary shortcuts to the site.

The Moodle site itself will likely only be down a short period over the July 1-July 4 maintenance period; however, all Summer Academy students should plan accordingly if they have any work that needs to be completed during that timeframe.  Students should not submit any course work through Moodle during the July 1-July 4 timeframe or it may be lost.  Submitting work through Google Classroom, email, or in person will be fine during this period.

Thank you for your understanding and enjoy the holiday break.

The Grand Rapids Rowing Association* is offering two beginner junior rowing sessions for Grand Rapids area students in 8th-12th grade.  Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to try something new this summer.  The first session will run from June 12 – June 29 and the second session will run from August 7 – August 24.
No one sits on the bench in rowing!  Rowing is a great way for kids to learn teamwork, self-confidence, focus and discipline.  We find that kids who wouldn’t participate in more traditional sports tend to do very well in rowing.  Athletes that already participate in a sport can also benefit from rowing in their off-seasons to help stay in shape.  Rowing is a full-body, low impact work out.
Please visit our website for more information and to register:   http://grrowing.org/junior
Questions, please e-mail our junior head coach, Kyle Barnhart, at:  kyle@grrowing.org
The Grand Rapids Rowing Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
