The Value of a West Catholic Education
West Catholic High School is a four-year, college preparatory school with a 2011-12 enrollment of 506 students. We are a Christ-centered institution where in the Catholic tradition we affirm the value of rational inquiry and the human search for meaning in an intellectual journey that leads toward truth and ultimately, toward God.
Take a look at the value that excellence provides:
· West Catholic offers 10 Advanced Placement and 10 Honors courses as well as dual enrollment options to earn college credit.
· West Catholic students receive three times as many college credits for coursework completed in high school compared to the average Michigan high school student. West Catholic students routinely earn between three and 30 college credits before graduating from high school. Many earn enough credits to enter college or university as sophomores, increasing the likelihood of completing a degree in four years or less.
· West Catholic graduates rank twice as high in college readiness compared to the state average. That means they enter college prepared to get A’s and B’s in the core college subjects of English, reading, math and science. Many “test out” of 100-level basic classes, saving on overall tuition costs and time spent toward degree completion.
· West Catholic graduates do not require remedial coursework on entering college or university and often enter their chosen field of study as freshmen. In Michigan it has been reported that up to 26 percent of freshmen must take remedial classes before being admitted to their degree programs, adding cost and years to their college careers. |
· Strong academic programs mean West Catholic students traditionally are awarded generous amounts in academic scholarships. In 2011, West Catholic seniors were awarded an average of $36,000 in college scholarships.
- In faith journeys that for many began right in their parish schools, West Catholic students demonstrate their beliefs by performing more than 20,000 hours of service in our community every year.
