WC Quiz Bowl team takes 5th place in state
The West Catholic Quiz Bowl team capped off the most successful season in school history with a 5th place finish at the State Quiz Bowl Tournament at Michigan State University on April 15 and 16.

WC Quiz Bowl Team preparing to compete at the State Tournament

The team posted a State Tournament record of 5 wins and 2 losses, defeating Otsego, Morley-Stanwood, Fremont, Flint Powers, and Yale, before being eliminated by Gull Lake in the last minute of a very close match. Competing at State for West Catholic were Jack Brooks, Ryan Diehl (team captain), Patrick Harwood, and Brendan Kosnik.
West Catholic earned its berth in the State Tournament by winning the Grand Rapids Metro Quiz Bowl League. The team posted a record of 11-1 in league matches this year to win its first-ever league championship. Jack Brooks and Brendan Kosnik received all-conference honors.
The team had 13 members competing at varsity and junior varsity levels this year: seniors Mackenzie Bush, Ryan Diehl, Patty Pierzchala, and Kris Zakfeld, juniors Patrick Harwood and Katrina Marks, sophomores Jack Brooks, Katie Hartman, Brendan Kosnik, and Zach Zakfeld, and freshmen Pete Brechting, Chris Jensen, and Joe O’Brien. The team is coached by Mr. Patrick Nugent.
